For Special Education Teachers ·
What you'll accomplish
By the end of this guide, you'll have a FERPA-compliant AI tool specifically designed for teachers — with built-in tools for IEP goals, accommodations lists, and behavior intervention plans. Unlike using ChatGPT with student data, MagicSchool is built to handle student information safely under IDEA and FERPA.
What you'll need
What you should see: A dashboard with dozens of AI tools organized by category — look for the "Special Education" section.
On the MagicSchool dashboard, look for the category menu on the left side or a search bar at the top. Type "IEP" or click "Special Education" to filter to SPED-specific tools.
You'll see tools including:
Click IEP Goal Writer. You'll see a form with fields for:
Fill in the fields. Because this is a form (not a free-text box), you can include more specific student information — MagicSchool's terms of service and data processing agreement are designed to comply with FERPA and IDEA.
Example entries:
Click Generate. MagicSchool will produce 2-3 SMART IEP goals for your target skill area.
What you should see: Numbered goals with measurable criteria, baselines, and suggested measurement methods. The format will closely match standard IEP goal structures.
Go back to the dashboard and click IEP Accommodation Suggestions. Enter:
MagicSchool will generate a list of appropriate accommodations — organized by category (presentation, response, setting, timing/scheduling). Use this as your starting checklist when building an IEP's accommodations page.
If you want to adjust any output, look for a Refine or Chat option. You can say things like:
Select all the text you want to use, copy it (Ctrl+C / Cmd+C), and paste into your IEP software (Frontline, IEP Direct, PowerSchool SPED, etc.). Customize with this student's specific data and your district's formatting requirements.
MagicSchool uses forms rather than prompts, but here are the key fields for common scenarios:
