What you'll accomplish

By the end of this guide, you'll be using ChatGPT to generate behavior intervention strategy suggestions, BIP language, and reinforcement menu ideas — giving you a strong starting point for team discussions instead of starting from a blank page.

What you'll need

  • A ChatGPT free account at chat.openai.com
  • ABC data or behavioral observations for the student (collected from your own documentation)
  • Knowledge of the student's disability category and motivators
  • Time needed: 15 minutes to learn; 10-15 minutes per BIP strategy session
  • Cost: Free
  • Important: All suggestions are brainstorming starting points — always review with your school psychologist or BCBA before implementing

How-To Guide: Using ChatGPT to Plan Behavior Intervention Strategies

Step 1: Gather Your ABC Data Summary

Before opening ChatGPT, collect your notes. You need:

  • A (Antecedent): What typically happens right before the behavior? What setting, time of day, activity, demand?
  • B (Behavior): What does the behavior look like specifically? How often? How long? How intense?
  • C (Consequence): What happens after? What does the student get or avoid?
  • Function: Your hypothesis about why the behavior occurs (escape, attention, sensory, access to preferred items)

You don't need perfect data — even general observations are useful for generating starting strategies.
